Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, Dec. 1: At 2 pm an officer was requested at Dollar General for a shoplifting incident. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Zakkariah Dylan-Levi Boudewyn, 21, of Clinton for theft-fifth degree.* There was also an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for Boudewyn for theft-fifth degree. The officer’s investigation of the event also led to the arrest of Tyler James Alberts, 25, of Clinton on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for theft-fifth degree.*
Saturday, Nov. 30: At 11:20 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of N. Wilson and State St. Jamie Jo Francis Theulen was northbound on Wilson. Charlotte Edith Jorgensen was southbound on Wilson. Both vehicles arrived at the intersection at the same time. Theulen attempted to turn left and proceeded through the intersection. The license plate of Theulen’s vehicle struck the left front corner of Jorgensen’s vehicle. Theulen was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to his 2004 Volkwagen Beetle was estimated at $500. Damage to Jorgensen’s 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan was also estimated at $500.
Friday, Nov. 29: Routine activity reported.
Thursday, Nov. 28: At 7:59 am an officer assisted the Jefferson fire department with a gas spill at Kum & Go. At 2:29 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary at 400 W. State St. The officer is investigating. At 8:05 pm Vicki Mitchell reported a hit and run accident at Casey’s (N. Elm). It appeared someone with a receiver hitch backed into her vehicle as it was parked in a parking stall. Damage was estimated at $750.
Wednesday, Nov. 27: At 9:13 am a complainant reported a burglary in the 1000 block of W. Adams St. The officer is investigating. At 7:13 pm an officer investigated a collision in the intersection of N. Maple and W. Clark Streets. Both parties had exchanged information and left the scene. Delaney Gibson was westbound on Clark St. Karl Krieger was southbound on Maple St. The front of Krieger’s vehicle struck the front right of Gibson’s vehicle in the uncontrolled intersection. Damage to Gibson’s 1998 Nissan Sentra and to Krieger’s 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was estimated at $500. At 11:41 pm a traffic stop resulted in charges as follows: Shania Davis of Glidden, possession of alcohol under age and minor in possession of tobacco; and Jessica Schultz of Lanesboro and Brandon Ferguson and Jacob Monthei, both of Jefferson, possession of alcohol under age.*
Tuesday, Nov. 26: At 7:41 am a complainant reported a hit and run collision in the 600 block of S. Olive St. A vehicle had backed out of a neighboring driveway and struck a 2003 Hyundai Sonata owned by Jason Sands. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Charges are pending completion of an investigation. At 11:45 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the parking at Oly’s Corner. Joseph Ostdiek and Daniel Snyder were both parked diagonally on the south side of the building. They backed out at the same time; Snyder began to turn his vehicle and struck Ostdiek’s vehicle. Damage to Ostdiek’s 2012 Ford Fusion was estimated at $700. Damage to Snyder’s 1994 Pontiac Sunbird was estimated at $1,000. No citations were issued due to the incident occurring on private property. At 3:48 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in the off street parking at 102 S. Grimmell Road. Tasheena Sebourn was parked on the west side of the lot. As she attempted to back out she struck a vehicle southbound in the lot driven by Linda Foust. Damage to Foust’s 2008 Toyota Rav4 was estimated at $500. Sebourn’s 2005 Toyota Sienna was not damaged. So citation was issued as most traffic offenses do not apply to parking areas outside the roadway. At 5:26 pm Don’s Ace Hardware requested an officer for a shoplifting incident that occurred on Oct. 30. An investigation was initiated.
Monday, Nov. 25: At 1:49 pm an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. Keith Conroy had been parked on the north side of Lincoln Way just west of Chestnut St. Marvin Shriver was westbound on Lincoln Way at the stop sign at Chestnut. Conroy backed from the parking stall as Shriver left the stop sign. He swerved to go around Conroy, who was stopped in the roadway shifting to go forward. Shriver struck the left rear corner of Conroy’s vehicle, then continued westbound causing damage to the entire side of Conroy’s vehicle. Shriver was cited for failure to stop in a safe clear assured distance ahead. Damage to his 2000 Buick LeSabre was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Conroy’s 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck was estimated at $1,500.

Saturday, Nov. 23: At 1:59 am a complainant reported being awakened by a pounding noise coming from 401 N. Chestnut St. The complainant looked outside and saw a male running away from a pickup truck parked in the driveway. Officers arrived in the area immediately but could not locate the subject. The truck had sustained two broken side windows and a broken windshield. The incident remains under investigation.
Friday, Nov. 22: At 7:30 am an officer investigated a backing collision at S. Cedar and E. Madison St involving David Teeples, who was driving a city-owned dump truck with a snowplow attached, and James Cates of Jefferson. Teeples had plowed the dead-end 500 block of E. Madison and was backing toward Cedar St. He looked for approaching traffic and at the last minute observed Cates northbound on Cedar. Teeples attempted to stop but struck the right rear of Cates’ vehicle. Cates did not stop, but a JPD officer was later notified of the owner of the vehicle. Cates was cited for failure to prove security against liability. Damage to his 1995 Chevrolet Lumina was estimated at $1,000. The city owned vehicle was not damaged. Teeples was not cited as Iowa Code exempts road workers operating maintenance equipment on behalf of any local authority while removing snow from a roadway. At 1:57 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in the Fareway parking lot. Brooke Coffin backed from a parking stall and struck the right rear of a vehicle in the drive lane driven by Susan Mickelson. Damage to Coffin’s 2002 Dodge Neon was estimated at $200. Damage to Mickelson’s 2011 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $1,000. No citation was issued due to the accident occurring on private property.
Thursday, Nov. 21: At 12:30 pm an officer investigated a one vehicle collision on the railroad overpass on N. Elm St. Patricia Marywhite was northbound when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway and struck the concrete guardrail. Damage to her 1996 Mercury Marquis was estimated at $1,000. No citation was issued. At 6:09 pm an officer investigated a motor vehicle collision at W. Russell and S. Elm involving Jane Perkins Healy and Daniel Ritter. Healy was westbound on Russell and stopped at the traffic light at Elm. Ritter was following Healy. He was unable to stop due to slick road conditions and struck the rear of Healy’s vehicle. Ritter was cited for failure to stop in a safe clear assured distance ahead. Damage to his 1997 Nissan King Cab pickup truck was not reported. Damage to Healy’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $,1500. An officer has charged Thomas Michael Bortz-Harper, 17, of Jefferson with harassment-third degree, trespassing, interference with official acts, minor using tobacco and disorderly conduct in connection with an incident on Nov. 20 at a residence in the 1400 block of Westwood Drive.* He has been referred to Juvenile Court Services.
Wednesday, Nov. 20: At 10:35 am Joe’s Auto Body reported the theft of a red 1994 GMC Sonoma pickup truck that had been recovered by the sheriff’s office at 160th St and K Ave in Bristol Township on Nov. 11. The incident remains under investigation. At 5:54 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 1400 block of Westwood Drive for a 17-year-old male refusing to comply with his guardian; the juvenile was also reported to be in possession of suspicious items. The juvenile was ultimately taken into custody and transported to the LEC. Department of Human Services received information about the incident; charges are pending. At 6:25 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at W. Lincoln Way and Elm St involving Nickolas Brown and James Ehmen, both of Jefferson. Brown was westbound on Lincoln Way following Ehmen. He told the officer his brakes failed, causing him to strike the rear of Ehmen’s vehicle. Ehmen was transported to Greene County Medical Center for possible injuries. Brown was cited for failure to stop in a safe assured clear distance ahead. Brown’s 2000 Mercury Mystique was not damaged. Damage to Ehmen’s 2007 Ford Taurus was estimated at $200.
Tuesday, Nov. 19: A warrant has been issued charging Tyler James Alberts, 25, of Jefferson with theft-fifth degree.* Alberts is accused of shoplifting at Don’s Ace Hardware on Oct. 22. A warrant has been issued charging Zakkariah Dylanlevi Goudewyn, 21, of Jefferson with theft-fifth degree.* He is accused of shoplifting at Don’s Ace Hardware on Oct. 22.
Monday, Nov. 18: At 7:27 am officers were advised of a pursuit approaching Jefferson that had been initiated by a Motor Vehicle Enforcement officer near Slifer after radar had indicated a vehicle going 103 mph in a 55 mph zone. The pursuit entered Jefferson on Mulberry St and went south on Cedar St. Motor Vehicle Enforcement command staff ordered the pursuit terminated as it approached the elementary school on Russell St. Officers lost sight of the vehicle at that time. Numerous calls were received at the Law Enforcement Center reporting two males had run from the car and into a house in the 600 block of S. Olive St. Several officers responded to the area and began a search of the neighborhood. As a precaution, the elementary school was notified of the situation and a lock down was conducted. Motor Vehicle Enforcement officers took Blythe Eversole, 16, of Jefferson into custody.* He was charged with eluding, a class D felony. The incident remains under investigation by Motor Vehicle Enforcement officers. Assisting agencies were the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol. At 7:43 am a complainant reported her Mitsubishi Galant had been stolen from her residence two hours earlier. It was the vehicle reported stolen earlier. At 9:05 am a complainant reported a license plate had been stolen off a vehicle in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. At 6:28 pm Greene County Medical Center reported a large amount of smoke in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer did not locate the source.
Sunday, Nov. 17: At 10:35 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary in the 400 block of W. State St. Daniel Lee Rosenow, 26, of Jefferson has been charged with disorderly conduct in connection the a reported assault that occurred at Spare Time Lanes/Lounge on Oct. 27.* Upon the completion of an investigation initiated on Nov. 11, Raymond William Wampler, 31, of Scranton has been charged with theft-fifth degree in connection with a reported Nov. 5 theft at Don’s Ace Hardware.*
Saturday, Nov. 16: At 6:45 am a resident spoke with an officer about finding possible stolen property. The officer is investigating. At 11:52 am Wells Fargo reported a trespass occurring at the bank. The subject had received written notice from the bank recently that they were not welcome at the bank, but had driven through the drive-up window that day.
Friday, Nov. 15: At 2:45 pm officers were assisted by Greene County sheriff’s deputies and the Department of Human Services in executing a search warrant at 403 N. Olive St. Suspected stolen property and narcotic-related items were seized. Charges are pending completion of the investigation. At 6:06 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief to his vehicle in the 200 block of N. Walnut.
Thursday, Nov. 14: At 2:34 pm a theft was reported at Ace Hardware. The officer is investigating. At 9:07 pm a complainant reported someone had struck some garbage cans with a vehicle in the 300 and 400 blocks of N. Wilson. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Nov. 13: At 11:54 am a resident reported a red Camaro being driven erratically in the area of N. Grimmell Road and Wall St. The car was reported to be occupied by four teenagers. The vehicle was not located.
Tuesday, Nov. 12: At 9:43 am officers assisted with a structure fire at 409 N. Olive St. At 2:53 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in the Bomgaars parking lot. Jaydon Anderson of Gowrie backed from a parking stall but struck another parked vehicle. Anderson told the officer the sun had obscured his vision. No citation was issued due to the accident occurring on private property. Anderson’s 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck was not damaged. Damage to the parked vehicle, a 1997 Chrysler Concorde owned by Terry Wilsey of Jefferson, was estimated at $1,750.
Monday, Nov. 11: At 7:30 am an officer arrested Clayton Stevens at a residence in the 600 block of W. Wilson on a Story County warrant for failure to appear.* At 7:50 am an officer was advised of a dog that had been deemed vicious in Aug. 2010 that was running free in a yard in the 400 block of S. Oak St while the owner stood in the doorway, allowing it to do so. City ordinance required that any animal deemed vicious wear a muzzle when outside and be on a leash at all times, or be in a pen with a concrete floor and roof so the animal cannot escape. The officer went to the residence and advised the owner that she was in violation of the ordinance and the animal must leave the city limits or be put down. The owner chose to take the dog to a residence outside the city limits. At 4:57 pm a complainant reported her wallet had been taken from inside her purse, which was in her vehicle parked in the 200 block of W. Washington St a portion of the day and also at her residence. The officer planned to follow up on the complaint. At 4:58 pm staff at Don’s Ace Hardware reported a shoplifting that took place Nov. 5. A suspect has been identified and the officer is investigating.
Sunday, Nov. 10: At 6:10 pm a resident reported a cow in the ditch on S. Elm St. The cow was being put back in the pasture upon the officer’s arrival.
Saturday, Nov. 9: At 12:48 am an officer assisted an Iowa State Patrolman with a traffic stop and arrest at E. Washington and N. Cedar St. At 4:31 pm a resident reported a headstone had been damaged at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The headstone appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.
Friday, Nov. 8: At 9 am a suspected sex assault of an 8-year-old female was reported to an officer. The assault would have taken place at a residence in Des Moines. The officer initiated an investigation, contacted the Department of Human Services, and referred the complaint to the Des Moines police department. At 2:52 pm Casey’s (N. Elm) reported a gas drive-off in the amount of $44. A license plate number was provided; the officer is attempting to contact the customer. At 4:58 pm an officer was called to a residence in the 800 block of S. Elm St. A complainant reported receiving a phone call in which the caller attempted to sell him a renewal for Microsoft software. The complainant allowed the caller to download a program to his computer, at which time the computer became infected and was wiped out, losing personal data. At 6:47 pm an abandoned bicycle was reported in the 300 block of Georgia St. At 8:25 pm an officer was called to a residence in the 400 block of S. Locust for a complaint of assault. The caller was not at the address given, but was located at a residence in the 400 block of N. Olive St. Upon investigation, the alleged assault could not be confirmed, but the complainant, Donna Bridgeman, was arrested and charged with public intoxication-third or subsequent offense.*
Thursday, Nov. 7: At 9:16 pm Thelma Hedges reported a deer had struck the driver’s door of her 2011 Chevrolet Malibu in the 1500 block of Westwood Drive. Damage was estimated at $3,000.
Wednesday, Nov. 6: At 11:02 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the 200 block of S. Chestnut St. As Allen Smith of Grand Junction backed from a parking stall on the east side of the Law Enforcement Center he struck a parked vehicle. Smith’s 1980 Chevrolet pickup truck was not damaged, but the 1993 Grumman, owned by the US Postal Service, sustained an estimated $1,500 damage to the driver side door area. Smith was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway and failure to prove security against liability-accident related. At 3:25 pm a complainant reported the theft of a 25′ aluminum extension ladder valued at $200 from a residence in the 600 block of W. Washington St.
Tuesday, Nov. 5: At 12:07 am an officer was called to a residence inn the 700 block of N. Cedar for a complaint of harassment. Pursuant to the officer’s investigation, a warrant has been issued charging Douglas Burkhart, 29, of Perry with violation of a protective order. At 7 am an officer was requested at a residence in the 400 block of N. Chestnut St for damage to a 1998 Mercedes SUV parked there. That damage to the vehicle was consistent with some sort of collision but there was no indication the damage had occurred where the vehicle was parked. Damage was estimated at $3,700. The incident remains under investigation. At 3:50 pm an officer was called to a residence in the 1300 block of Westwood Drive for a theft complaint. The complainant had not received an item ordered by mail. Upon checking with the Postal Service she learned it had been delivered to her residence Nov. 2. The value of the package was $100. At 8:05 pm an officer responded to a one vehicle collision in the 1900 block of N. Mulberry St involving Michael Caraher. Caraher was westbound on Highway 30 and turned south onto Mulberry. He told the officer he had fallen asleep. He struck a utility pole and mailbox at the driveway of Finch’s Greene County Motors, snapping the utility pole into pieces and damaging the mailbox. Estimated damage to Caraher’s 2011 Chevrolet Impala exceeded value of the vehicle. Damage to the utility pole was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the mailbox and any recreational vehicles parked at the dealership has not been determined. Caraher was cited for failure to maintain control.
Monday, Nov 4: At 3:50 pm officers responded to a three vehicle personal injury collision at Greenewood Road and Elm St at the south edge of Jefferson. Lois Case of Jefferson was northbound in the inside lane of Elm, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Classic. She attempted to turn left onto Greenewood Road, but turned into the path of Leonard Daniel of Carroll, who was southbound driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. Daniel’s vehicle struck the front of Case’s vehicle. Her vehicle then went southeast into the path of a northbound 2005 Volkswagen Passat driven by Kirk Kiger of Dakota City. Kiger’s vehicle struck the rear of Case’s vehicle and then came to rest in the outside northbound lane. Jefferson fire department personnel were summoned to extricate Case from her vehicle using the mechanical extrication tool. All three drivers and a passenger in Daniel’s vehicle were transported by Greene County EMS to Greene County Medical Center for evaluation. Case was later taken to Des Moines by medical helicopter. The collision remains under investigation. The JPD was assisted by the Greene County sheriff’s office.
Karah Jean Brown, 16, and Emily Anne Walsh, 18, both of Jefferson, have been charged with interference with official acts in connection with an incident Oct. 30 at Linduska Field. An officer had been alerted that the two may have been consuming alcoholic beverages while attending a football game. When the officer approached them, they ran, locked themselves in a vehicle, and sped off. Brown has been referred to Juvenile Court Services. A warrant was issued for Walsh.*
Sunday, Nov. 3: At 4:03 pm a resident reported a downed utility line in the 300 block of N. Wilson. The officer determined it was a cable television line and alerted Jefferson Telecom. At 7:05 pm the sheriff’s office requested a Jefferson officer deliver a search light to the 1300 block of K Ave to assist in a search for a juvenile female who had run away from home. The officer obliged. At 9:12 pm a deputy requested a JPD officer respond to a one vehicle rollover accident on M Ave near Seven Hills Park southwest of Jefferson. Officers responded and provided traffic control until a deputy could arrive.
Saturday, Nov. 2: At 1:07 pm a resident reported a large unattended leaf pile burning in the 500 block of S. Elm. The officer made contact with the occupant at the residence and reminded him about the importance of being present while yard waste is being burned. At 8:38 pm a Greene County deputy requested assisted from JPD officers in locating two male subjects who had allegedly committed an assault in Grand Junction. The two were thought to be at a residence in Jefferson. The officers made contact with the males and placed them in custody. Zachary Dennis Milligan, 19, of Fort Dodge and Chance Michael Milligan, 21, of Jefferson were charged by a deputy with assault-simple.*
Friday, Nov. 1: At 2:57 pm Greene County High School officials requested an officer for two students who had been found in possession of cigarettes. Grason Trever Lansman, 15, of Grand Junction and Stephen Arthur Molle, 17, of Jefferson were cited for minor in possession of tobacco.* Lansman left the school property against the directive of the officer and school officials. A charge of interference with official acts against Lansman has been sent to juvenile court.
Thursday, Oct. 31: At 10:18 am a resident told an officer of a letter she received in the mail from a sender claiming to be a bank manager from Malaysia. The letter instructed her to go to a website and provide personal information, after which she would receive money. The resident reported the incident to warn others. At 5 pm a resident reported a 17-year-old male had left her residence in the 1400 block of Westwood Drive against her wishes. Officers searched for the juvenile but he was not immediately located. At 8:56 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief at a residence in the 500 block of W. State St where pumpkins had been smashed by mischievous teenagers driving a black Honda. At 9:04 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 400 block of W. State St for a possible burglary.
Wednesday, Oct. 30: At 3:01 am an officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with a personal injury accident on 270th St southwest of Jefferson. At 9:27 am a resident reported a phone scam where the caller represented himself as a grandchild in need of money. No loss was incurred as the scam was recognized. At 4:54 p.m. an officer arrested William Lawrence, 42, of Jefferson on an outstanding arrest warrant for assault on a peace officer/medical services personnel (two counts).* The charges stem from an incident on 9/01. At 8:03 pm an officer was advised of two juvenile females that were reported to have possibly been drinking alcohol in the stands at Linduska Field. The officer attempted to speak to the two but they ran to a vehicle and took off. Charges are pending.
